Ishwar Singh, a resident of village Khampura in Simha Block of Mahendragarh, Haryana, has always been deeply connected to his ancestral farmland and traditional agricultural practices. The main source of income in the family is agriculture. However, like many small-scale farmers, he faced numerous challenges in making his farm financially sustainable. The lack of modern farming equipment and the heavy reliance on manual labor made it difficult for him to maximize his crop yields and income—until he found a ray of hope with the S M Sehgal Foundation and HDFC Parivartan Project.
The project provided support and resources to help local farmers modernize their farming practices. Ishwar Singh and his family were some of the beneficiaries of the power weeder machinery, provided at a subsidized rate. The power weeder reduced the labor-intensive work of weeding and also improved the overall efficiency and productivity of their agricultural operations. Ishwar facilitated the use of the machinery through a custom hiring center that facilitates affordable renting of farm machinery on a per-acre basis to many farmers in Khampura.
Over the course of a farming season, Ishwar Singh successfully weeded 22.5 acres of land for his fellow farmers using the power weeder machine. He generated an income of INR 22,500, representing a substantial boost to his family’s income.
Ishwar’s success story inspired many others in village Khampura to explore innovative ways to improve their farming practices and income. The HDFC Parivartan Project played a pivotal role in making this transformation possible by providing the necessary support and resources.
