Government Girls Middle School at Atta village of Nuh district, Haryana, has been transformed in partnership with PEHEL Foundation (PNB Housing Finance Ltd.). Community members share experiences after school transformation.
“I joined the school five years ago. When I came here, there was no boundary, the paint was chipping off everywhere, and everything seemed dull and listless. Even though the school administration tried to get together to mobilize funds for the repair, the actual work done was very limited and not of good quality.
Then finally last year, S M Sehgal Foundation approached us to offer support for the complete transformation of our school. They introduced us to the project of PNB Housing Ki Paathshaala, which is supported by PNB Housing Finance Limited, for the benefit our children. Through this project we got full assistance to repair the school’s boundary, the classrooms, toilets, playground, and the entire look and feel of the school. The project team also guided us on how to look after the school once they are done. We too gave our assurance to render our full support to the project team. The school administration and the community were pleased with how everything was done.
Our school is now totally transformed and looks beautiful. The children are so happy coming to school that they don’t want to go back unless we lock the premises!
Earlier we went knocking on doors for enrollment and now people call us for admissions! They cannot believe that this government school is better than private schools, and now want to enroll with us. As a teacher, I feel empowered and motivated.”

“Sanitation was always an issue in our school, as the existing toilets were in a dismal state. There was also no provision of drinking water. The children had to keep going out of the school to refill their water bottles. This was especially problematic during the summer. Often, children would not even return back.
With support of the project, PNB Housing ki Paathshaala, we now have new toilets with a separate provision for girls. The problem of drinking water is also resolved, for which a rainwater harvesting system is installed. Our entire village is delighted with these improvements. Now the children do not have to go out of school for accessing basic amenities and can concentrate on their studies without distractions.”
