Introduction

Community–led development plays a major role in the progress of society. The core of community-led development is characterized by participation and inclusion, voice, building community assets, capacity development, sustainability, transformative, collective planning and action, accountability, community leadership, adaptability, and collaboration.

The Need

The Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials are considered as an integral component of strategic communications in community-led development. With the changing times, the formats and forms of IEC materials have also tried to match the reduced attention span of people. Handbooks running into volumes and long training manuals, the IEC materials in the form of leaflets, infographics, and now sometimes audio-video content have become the norm. Even though detailed and in-depth IECs still have merits and their audience, when it comes to getting through a layperson and a rural audience, handy and easy-to-understand IEC materials are best suited for building awareness and capacities of communities on various aspects.

S M Sehgal Foundation with its rich experience in community capacity building came up with participatory rural games, customizing and adapting the commonly played indoor board games into theme-based knowledge-building games to deliver training sessions on key government programs and themes like soil health, nutrition, women empowerment, gender equality, and others.
