S M Sehgal Foundation At The Sustainable Agriculture Summit 2024.
At the Sustainable Agriculture Summit 2024, S M Sehgal Foundation received the Community Engagement and Social Impact award.
Shri Sanjay Kumar Jha, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Bihar, presented the award to Ms. Anjali Makhija, CEO and trustee; Ms. Pooja O. Murada, principal lead, Outreach for Development; and Mr. Naveen Singh, senior program lead, Agriculture Development, S M Sehgal Foundation.
The Agriculture Development program at the foundation promotes sustainable livelihoods by building the capacities of farmers including women producers, on improved agricultural practices and new technologies that increase crop yields, conserve water, and improve soil fertility. Find out more…
Stories of Change.
In 2023, the defunct Sangam Samridhi FPO of Bhelkha, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, was selected for development. Sangam Samridhi FPO has 1,000 farmers, of whom 300 are women. After selection, the FPO chose to address the pressing issue of inconsistent and expensive access to high-quality cattle feed by setting up a mini mill for animal feed.

S M Sehgal Foundation As Knowledge Partner at the NIRDPR Conference.
Ms. Anjali Makhija, CEO and trustee of S M Sehgal Foundation, addressed the participants in the National Workshop on “NGO and Government Convergence Pathways: Setting Expectations, Identifying Challenges and Solutions” during the inaugural session at the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The foundation collaborated as the knowledge partner in the workshop. Dr. Vikas Jha, principal lead, Local Participation and Sustainability, and Ms. Arti Grover, senior manager, Public Relations, also shared insights as panelists.

Flipkart and Walmart Visit FPOs in Kolar.
S M Sehgal Foundation had the distinct privilege of hosting Mr. Rajneesh Kumar, chief corporate affairs officer of the Flipkart Group, and Mr. Nishant Gupta, Social and Environmental Impact advisor at Walmart, during their recent visit FPOs in Kolar. The visit connected with the Walmart Foundation’s initiative to strengthen Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), a project implemented by S M Sehgal Foundation since 2021. This project benefits twenty-three FPOs across Kolar in Karnataka and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.

Farmers’ Training in Nainital, Uttarakhand.
A one-day training program, organized at the Agriculture Research Center, Majheda, district Nainital, by S M Sehgal Foundation under the Focused Development Project supported by HDFC Bank. The block development officer served as the chief guest, with over 100 farmers and officials from various government departments. Officials discussed government schemes promoting farmer self-reliance. The project focuses on establishing nano orchards on barren land to increase farmers’ income, with over 200 fruit trees distributed to forty-three farming families to date.

SMSF Water Solutions Presentation at PMAY-G Model House.
Representing S M Sehgal Foundation, Mr. Sunil and Mr. Vemanarayana from the Hyderabad team of SMSF visited the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) Model House at the Rural Technology Park, NIRDPR. They presented an overview of the foundation’s initiatives, including Rainwater Harvesting (RWH), biosand and MatiKalp filters, which are designed to provide safe drinking water in rural areas. Their efforts were highly commended.
Successful Organic Farming Training in Rajasthan.
S M Sehgal Foundation, in collaboration with KVK-Padampur, organized a successful training session for thirty-eight farmers in Rajasthan’s Ganganagar district. The event featured insightful sessions on establishing and managing organic kitchen gardens, soil testing, composting, and integrated nutrient and pest management for Guar crops. These sessions provided participants with valuable knowledge on various crop varieties.
Independence Day Celebration.
Across twelve states, S M Sehgal Foundation, along with the community and its team members, celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day, reaffirming a commitment to a brighter and more empowered future for its citizens.

Workshops and Training.
WASH Workshop.
S M Sehgal Foundation organized a three-day Community WASH Promotion Workshop. During this time, participants actively developed strategies to influence behavior change, engaged in a “WASH Detective” exercise to understand WASH issues, participated in role-playing scenarios, and prepared action plans to drive positive change within their communities.
