A special community radio series “Atpate Vigyaan Ki Chatpati Charchayein“ (Science concepts through story)” will be aired on Alfaz-e-Mewat community radio station FM 107.8, an initiative by S M Sehgal Foundation, in collaboration with CEMCA – Commonwealth of Educational Media Centre for Asia, beginning September 27, 2021. It is a ten-episode series based on interesting stories sharing scientific concepts.
The series aims at increasing awareness of how science can be leveraged in daily life, by targeting the youth through storytelling, to bridge the gap between theory and reality, in a fun way.
Pooja Oberoi Murada, principal lead and representative at Alfaz-e-Mewat community radio, Outreach for Development at S M Sehgal Foundation mentioned that,
“The purpose of this series is to make children, especially girls familiar with basic science such as life around us, what are antibodies, what is an X-ray, and more. The radio series tries to demystify science for better understanding. We thank CEMCA for this initiative, connecting children with science through community radios.”
The rural community radio series will air daily at 9:30 am, and at 8:30 pm, from September 27, 2021 on Alfaz-e-Mewat FM 107.8. By calling Alfaz-e-Mewat community radio station number 9813164542, listeners can also participate in the live phone–in a program regarding the episode.
Established by S M Sehgal Foundation in 2012, the Alfaz-e-Mewat community radio station broadcasts 13 hours daily, reaching more than 225 villages. In the decade of broadcasting experience, the rural community media has bridged the information divide by giving the community a platform to discuss and debate on topics related to them. The rural community radio is connected to all sections of the community through various thematic programs on subjects such as water management, climate change, agricultural development and so on.
