S M Sehgal Foundation (Sehgal Foundation) with support from Fluor Daniel Pvt. Ltd. renovated the government school in village Satputiaka in Nuh district, Haryana. The inauguration of the renovated government school was done in an event held on Jan 22, 2020. The government middle school underwent a complete transformation with the cooperation of school staff, students, community, and school management committee (SMC) members.
Sehgal Foundation’s projects and interventions include integrated grassroots programs in agriculture development, water management, and rural governance, with an overarching focus on the empowerment of girls and women.
The school renovation work began in April 2019, which included repairs of boundary wall, rooms, toilets, stage; leveling of school playground; installation of school gate; renovation of kitchen, pathways and corridors; provision for drinking water; desks in classrooms; and painting of the school with positive slogans and educational aids.
Representatives from Fluor joined the event and shared that children have a right to education, and the contributions will help build a conducive atmosphere in school such that children stay longer and develop keen interest in studies. These positive changes will certainly lead to better education. Sehgal Foundation’s Chief Operating Officer Ms. Anjali Makhija congratulated the school authorities and SMC members, saying, “SMCs are capacitated and are active and involved to maintain the improvements. It is a delight to see the educational slogans painted on the school walls that inspire schoolchildren.”
Students are more motivated and empowered and take pride in sharing about the improvements in their school. The new beautified look with additional facilities encourages them to attend school regularly, thus increasing retention. School authorities are hopeful of increase in the school enrollment, especially girl children.
