Education is extremely important and useful, and these children’s future is brighter and more secure with a proper and essential means of obtaining education.
The village Atmadnagar Alipur in district Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, has a middle school, where 360 children study in grades six to ten. The infrastructure of this school was weak, the doors and windows broken, floor was damaged, and during monsoons the school grounds filled with water, which caused lot of difficulty to students and teachers.
Under a CSR-supported project, S M Sehgal Foundation undertook the initiative to revamp and beautify this school. The project team met with the school committee members and the sarpanch, and subsequently began the improvements to the school, which included repair of the floors, installation of strong metallic doors and windows, repair and plastering of the classrooms, water supply fittings, and construction of drinking water station, building a stage with a flag post, making brick benches, repairing the boundary wall, beautification of the main gate, whitewashing and wall painting, among other improvements. All these improvements were completed under the supervision of the school committee and community. Now the enrollment and attendance of students in the school has increased, the children are more attentive in their studies, and this school holds a place of pride in the village.
