Niyaz Mohammad resides in Sonkh village, in Nuh, Haryana. Farming is the main source of income for his family, and he has 2.5 acres of land. His farming endeavours primarily focus on growing crops such as brinjal, tomatoes, chili and other vegetables. Niyaz is known to be a forward-thinking farmer who eagerly embraces innovative and sustainable agricultural practices.
TLG India Private Limited has undertaken Gram Uday-7 project in Sonkh village since April 2023, which is being implemented by S M Sehgal Foundation. In a farmer’s meeting in August 2023, liquid foliar fertilizers were discussed. Niyaz was impressed with the advantages of applying these fertilizers, such as their ability to swiftly deliver nutrients to plants through direct application on leaves. This method addresses nutrient deficiencies promptly, especially during the crucial growth phase, ensuring uniform distribution without disturbing the soil, and proves to be a more cost-effective solution. Ultimately, the utilization of liquid foliar fertilizers contributes significantly to improving plant health, boosting yields, and enhancing agricultural productivity.
Niyaz, eagerly expressed his interest in adopting this intervention as a demonstrator of the project and was selected due to being a progressive farmer. In September 2023, Niyaz received liquid micronutrients, including nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, boron, among others, specifically designed for foliar application, for half an acre of his farmland. Additionally, Niyaz and the other demonstration farmers underwent training sessions on the application and usage of liquid foliar fertilizers.
Niyaz applied the liquid foliar in his brinjal crop in September 2023. He observed that his plants were of vibrant color, growing sturdily, with better leaf conditions, abundant foliage, and proper fruit development, which ultimately led to a better yield. Niyaz produced approximately 8,000 kg of brinjal and sold it in the market at approximately ₹80,000. His production is almost double that of other farmers growing the same crop in the same area of land, in his village.
Niyaz expressed, “The application of liquid foliar fertilizers has delivered exceptional outcomes in my agricultural land. So I intend to continue utilizing this method for cultivating vegetables. Other farmers have also been impressed by observing the outcomes and are considering adopting this technique.”
