Technology is ever-changing. Digital communication technologies connecting people across the globe have become easier and faster. Platforms such as Zoom, Room, Google hangouts, Microsoft teams, WebEx, and many others are buzzing virtual world spaces to connect and share. Social media platforms such as Twitter, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, FaceTime, and all other high-end applications on smartphones have also shown us how technology has changed the world.

THE IMPACT OF DIGITAL INDIA ON RURAL DEVELOPMENT

Launched in 2015, a dream project of the Indian government, Digital India was to transform rural India into a digitally empowered society by gaining digital access to government services, and dissemination of information. The visionary step of the government was to motivate and connect rural India to a knowledgeable world through a backbone of a high-speed internet.

The vision of digital India was threefold –

Besides the creation of manufacturing infrastructure, the Digital India Program was conceptualized on nine pillars and in the rural context. The key areas were:

The impact on rural India has been slow, yet steady. In such a large and diverse country, some impact areas have been:

E-Governance. Projects such as e-District, Common Services Centers (CSCs), Kisan Call Centres, Jagriti E-Sewa, Mobile Seva, etc., have led to better service delivery, transparency and accountability, and improvement in government efficiency. The empowerment of people through information, although slow, is definitely spearheading rural India to contribute to the next phase of growth in the economy.

Education. Initiatives such as Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyaan PMGDISHA have begun with the target of making six crore people digitally literate in rural India. Rural education in India is crucial for the next phase of growth, and projects like SWAYAM are spearheading e-education by offering Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs). Swayam provides a platform that facilitates hosting all courses taught in classrooms, starting from the 9th standard, till post-graduation, with an open access.

Financial Inclusion. Financial inclusion with the help of Digital India, has been accelerated through schemes such as Digital India, UPI payments, direct benefit transfer, Rupay, etc. The Jan Dhan–Aadhaar–Mobile has positively affected the banking sector in the country. The benefits have percolated to the rural areas, and the financial literacy has significantly improved since the rural population got integrated into the system. Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) has created a major financial impact for the rural communities by plugging leakages and accelerating the distribution of pensions, subsidies, and other benefits under various schemes. All this has led to a positive economic outlook in rural India.

Adverse situations reshape the world and cause turning points that bring about vital new lessons. The social sector welcomed and adopted virtual and remote working models to an extent, and, as the lockdown relaxed, face-to-face conversations and on-ground activities resumed on a smaller scale.

As the pandemic accelerated, India witnessed one of the highest adoptions of digital technologies and solutions by health and human services (HHS) organizations among the countries surveyed, according to a new survey from EY and Imperial College London’s Institute for Global Health Innovation. Fifty-one percent of respondents in India had increased their use of digital technologies and data solutions since the outbreak of the pandemic. (Mint Newspaper, March 18, 2021).

S M Sehgal Foundation has been using Zoho CRM for four years. In the pandemic, the software helped to send mass emails to database contacts. Its built-in email templates are convenient for sending out event schedules. An important outcome is that CRM technology provides the analytics that helps to constantly refine email communication with organization contacts. CRM software provides a complete picture of how email communications fare and also integrates social media platforms, which can be linked to CRM to generate leads for the organization.

During our visit to India, we had the opportunity to go to village schools to learn about the biosand filter designed and installed by Sehgal Foundation. With the awesome help from Sehgal Foundation, school staff and children are able to drink clean water. The biosand filter is a very efficient way to remove biological contaminants and suspended solid particles from the water. The filter is inexpensive and maintenance free. While visiting one of the schools, volunteers used a water tester to measure the concentration of contaminants and suspended particles in the water in parts per million (PPM). The ideal drinking water should be 500 ppm or under. Before this visit, I did not know much about the biosand filter or how water is measured, but with the help of the Sehgal Foundation team, I was able to learn as well as have hands-on experience. Another interesting thing I noticed at one of the schools was the wall paintings and drawings on educational and public health topics. For example, there was a picture of the biosand filter on the wall that explained what it does and how it works. I thought this was a very interesting and creative way for the young children to learn about the filter.

On a visit to Bajidpur and Dungran Shahzadpur villages, we learned about a wastewater project there. The wastewater project included underground storage of all the wastewater that flooded the rural areas. The water drained into the system and was filtered for final storage underground. The filtering systems are must be cleaned every twenty-four hours to keep it long-lasting and working correctly. On one of the walls, a list showed all the projects done by the foundation team and how many of each type were implemented. The point of the wastewater project was to prevent flooding, keep homes clean, and streets clear for walking and transportation. Also, if the area is flooded, the incidences of skin disease and diarrhea are high. To me, this project was not only beneficial to the environment, but also mobilizes the community to an extent that villagers work together to keep the systems working properly.

The Sehgal Foundation team truly cares about the environment and people. They try their best to make the right decisions as efficiently as possible.v

हाल ही में सामुदायिक रेडियो प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम में जाने के मौका मिला. बहुत कुछ सीखा और कईं बातें भूलने के मन भी किया. आखिर ऐसी कौन सी बातें हैं जिन्हें भूलने का मन किया? बात हो रही थी समानता और अधिकारों की और चर्चा हुई की किस तरह आज भी हमारे समाज में औरत का दर्जा पुरुष से नीचे है. हालाँकि यह बात कईं मायनों में बदल रही है, औरतें घर से बाहर निकल रही है, अपनी खुद की पहचान बना रही हैं पर क्या फिर भी क्या जो दिख रहा है वैसा ही हो रहा है? क्या हमारी सोच में कोई बदलाव आया? सारी बातें फिर सवाल बनकर सामने आ खड़ी हुई. रेडियो कार्यक्रम हो या हमारा दैनिक जीवन पित्रसत्तात्मक सोच हमारे दिलों दिमाग में इतनी धस चुकी है कि जाने अनजाने हम अपने कार्यों, ख्यालों और विचारों में इसी का प्रमाण देते हैं.

किसी भी ताकत वाले या सत्ता से जुड़े काम की बात आये तो सबसे पहली तस्वीर जो दिमाग में बनती है वह पुरुष की और जहाँ बात आए सहनशीलता और बेचारेपन की वहां एकाएक महिला आकर खड़ी हो जाती है. किसका बनाया हुआ है यह ढांचा, शायद चूक यह हुई की हमने कभी इसपर सवाल ही नहीं उठाया और साल दर साल, पीड़ी दर पीड़ी यही सोच आगे बढती गई. बड़ी ही तैयारी के साथ हमने इस सोच को सामाजिक नियमों, प्रथाओं, और सांस्कृतिक लोकाचार के रंगीले शब्दों से सजा दिया.

अगर हम किसी बदलाव की कल्पना करते हैं तो उसे सबसे पहले हमसे ही शुरू होना चाहिए. बचपन से बड़े होने तक हम इस लिंग आधारित भेदभाव को सुनते आए हैं और कब यह सुनी सुनाई बातें हमारी भी मानयता बन गयी पता ही नहीं चला, मानो दबे पाव हमारे ज़हन में घर कर लिया हो और हम कब इसे ही सच समझ बैठे पता ही नहीं चला. पर जब सीखने का मौका मिला और गहराई से चीज़ों को जाना तो पता चला की यह सब इस समाज के देन है, इसमें कुदरत का कोई हाथ नहीं. कुदरत ने तो भेद बनाया था पर हम सब उसे भेद भाव बना बैठे. खुद अपने अनुभव से कहूं तो इस भेदभाव पर सवाल उठाने का अब ज्यादा मन इसीलिए भी करता है क्यूंकि मैं एक दो साल की बच्ची की माँ हूँ. मैं नहीं चाहती की जिन मानयताओं के साथ मैं बड़ी हुई, उन्ही के साथ मेरी बेटी भी बड़ी हो. वो न ही अपनी सुरक्षा, अपने फैसले खुद ले सके, बल्कि हर सामाजिक भेदभाव पर सवाल उठाने में सक्षम हो क्यूंकि सवाल उठाने से ही संवाद शुरू होता है और आगे चलकर वही बदलाव की राह बनता है.

समाज हम सभी से है तो क्यूँ ना एक शुरुआत करके देखी जाए. उदहारण के लिए एक दम्पति का पहला लड़का हुआ और उन्होंने चाहा की वो अब और बच्चे नहीं चाहते, उनका यह निर्णय स्वीकार बनस्पत उनके जिनकी बेटी है. क्या एक बेटी के साथ परिवार पूरा नहीं? लड़के रोते नहीं या क्यूँ लड़कियों की तरह रो रहे हो, ऐसी बातें जो हम बचपन से सुनते हैं कहीं न कहीं हमारी सोच का हिस्सा बन जाती हैं और हम इंसानियत को पीछे छोड़ते हुए बस इस सोच के आगे नतमस्तक, इसी को सही ठहराने की कोशिश में कईं रिश्ते नातों को दाव पर लगा देते हैं.

एक न्यायिक समाज की रचना शुरू करने के लिए हम सब की भागीदारी की ज़रुरत है क्यूंकि बराबरी कभी तकलीफ नहीं लाती, लाती है तो सिर्फ सम्मान और सोहार्द. जैसे की कमला भसीन जी कहती हैं ताकत से मोहब्बत मत करो, मोहब्बत की ताकत को समझो. हम सब में जिस दिन प्यार की मर्दानगी आ गयी उस दिन राहें बहुत आसान हो जायेंगी.

आज़ादी का उत्सव हम सबके लिए ख़ास है. इस साल भारत ने आजादी के 69 वर्ष पूरे कर 70वें साल में कदम रखा है| पूरे हिंदुस्तान में इस खास राष्ट्रीय पर्व को अलग- अलग रंग और अंदाज़ के साथ मनाया गया.

इस अवसर को खास बनाने के लिए 10 अगस्त 2016 को सामुदायिक रेडियो अल्फाज़-ए-मेवात FM 107.8 ने पहली बार जश्न-ए-आज़ादी कवि सम्मेलन का आयोजन मेवात के गाँव घाघस (ब्लाक नगीना) के सामुदायिक केंद्र में किया.

यह कवि सम्मेलन दूसरे कवि सम्मेलनों से काफ़ी अलग था. आयोजक कवि सम्मेलन की तैयारियों में इतने मुशरूफ़ और उत्साहित थे कि नंगे पाँव ही स्टेज सजाने, दर्शकों के बैठने की व्यवस्था कर रहे थे. बड़ा-सा हाल गेंदे के फूलों से सजा था और कवियों के बैठने के लिए भी दूधिया सफ़ेद चादर से ढका एक भव्य मंच बनाया गया था. आइए कवि-उद्गारों से सजी इस महफिल में कोने की एक सीट तलाशते हैं और वाह-वाह -कर तथा ताली बजाकर कवि सम्मेलन का लुफ़्त उठाते हैं। कक्ष कवियों की कविताओं और मुशायरे को सुनने के लिए पूरी तरह से महिलाओं और पुरुषों से भरा था. सम्मलेन का पैमाना और विस्तृत हो जाता है जब दिल्ली, अलवर और पंचकुला से आये मेहमान भी इसमें शिरकत करते हैं.

निज़ामत और दर्शक ज़बरदस्त उत्साह और तालियों के साथ मेवात के कवि इलियास प्रधान, फौज़ी उसमान, मास्टर अशरफ, डॉ. अशफ़ाक आलम, डॉ. माजिद खान, शफ़ी मोहम्मद का स्वागत परंपरागत मेवाती पगड़ी पहनकर करते है और मुमताज़ शाजिद और मुमताज़ परवीन जैसी शायारओं को मेवाती चुनरी भेंट स्वरुप प्रदान की गयी.
कवि सम्मेलन का आगाज नियामत अली (मेवाती लोक गायक) ने देश भक्ति से ओतप्रोत गीत से किया. मुशायरे की निज़ामत अश्फाक आलम ने शयारा मुमताज़ शाजिद को बुलाकर की. शयारा मुमताज़ ने देशभक्ति और वीर रस में पिरोई कविता सुनाकर दर्शकों का मन मोह लिया.

मेवाती मशहूर शायरा मुमताज़ परवीन की इन चंद लाइनों की शायरी का अंदाज़ ही अलग था, जिसको सुनकर सभी में देशभक्ति की भावना का जज़्बा जगा दिया:-
हवा जब तक रहे दोस्ती रखना
हवा जब आंधी बन जाये तों बगावत भी ज़रूरी है,
पुरखों के समझोते को ही
इबादत समझ लिया,
उनसे भी कह दो अपनी
बात पर रहे,
मिट्टी नहीँ हम जो पानी में
बह जाये,
सैलाब से कह दो अपनी
औकत में रहे

इसी तरह सभी आमंत्रित कवियों ने कविताओं और शायरों के ज़रिये मेवात के वीर सेनानियों की आज़ादी की लडाई में भागेदारी और साहस से जुड़ी गाथाएँ सुनाई और साथ ही अपनी रचनाओं के माध्यम से जिम्मेदार अल्फाजों और विचारों की आज़ादी के प्रति भी समा बांधा.
देशभक्ति का जनून कुछ इस कदर जगा कि मुख्य अतिथि श्री नरेन्द्र सिंह, चीफ जुडिशल मजिस्ट्रेट, मेवात ने भी सरकारी कार्यक्रमों और स्कीमों के बारे में जानकारी कविता के ज़रिये कुछ इस तरह दी:-
खरीद फरोख्त या अत्याचार
का जो भो हो साथी,
हम सब मिलकर काम करे,
तों उनकी जेल लाजमी हो.

इस कवि सम्मेलन ने कक्ष में बैठे सभी लोगों को मेवात की संपन्न और विख्यात रचनाओं से रूबरू होने का मौका दिया और कवियों को एक ऐसा मंच दिया जहां वे अपनी कविताओं के ज़रिये आज़ादी के महत्व और उस आज़ादी को सजोने के प्रति हम सबकी जिम्मेदारियों का भी बखान कर रहे थे. हम सबका फ़र्ज़ है कि हम सभी मिलकर आज़ादी की अहमियत को समझे और अपने अधिकारों की मांग से पहले जिम्मेदारियों को निभाये.

दर्शक कवियों की कविताओं में इतने मंत्रमुग्ध थे कि उनको एहसास ही नहीं हुआ की कैसे 2 घंटे 45 मिनट का शायरना कवि सम्मलेन नियामत अली के देशभक्ति से भरे गीत और तालियों की जोशीली आवाज़ के साथ समाप्त हुआ.

ऐसा माना जाता है विचारों में बहुत ताकत होती है. जब विचारों को अल्फाजों के धागे में पिरोया जाए और शायराना अंदाज़ और जोशीले आवाज़ की माला बनाकर सुनाया जाये, तों वो हर सुनने वाले के दिलोदिमाग पर अपनी एक अनोखी और यादगार छाप छोड़ जाती है.

कवि सम्मेलन से वापिस आते समय मैं भी अपने साथ कवियों की कविताओं और शायरी की बहुत – सी यादे अपने साथ लेकर आयी हूँ. मैंने भी प्रण लिया कि मैं अपने कर्तव्यों को निभाने का आगाज आज से ही और अपने घर से ही सबसे पहले करुगी, क्योंकि मेरी यह पहल धीरे-धीरे मुझे बड़ी जिम्मेदारियों की तरफ़ लेकर जाएगी. ऐसी उम्मीद करती हूँ कि आप भी इस लेख को पढ़ने के बाद अपने जीवन में कोई नई सकारात्मक शुरूआत ज़रूर करेगें और इसी तरह ज़ारी रहेगा आज़ादी का जश्न, क्योंकि विचारों और अल्फाजों में बहुत ताकत होती है.

The water problem in the villages close to Rajasthan’s Sariska forest emerged around a few decades back when villagers resorted to cutting of trees for livelihood. With this, what was once a dense forest gradually changed into a site for illegal mining. Besides destroying the natural beauty of the place, these activities also rendered the area water scarce with the water table dropping with each passing day.

Sehgal Foundation in collaboration with Coca Cola India Foundation is working in the area to improve the challenging environmental conditions by sensitizing people to conserve water and increase groundwater levels by installing water harvesting structures.

Villagers, including the members of Samra panchayat, came together for the cause. They gathered to organize Vriksh Raksha Yatra — a rally for creating awareness on protection and conservation of Mother Nature. The villagers took part in an awareness march from Hameerpur to Natata villages of Alwar, Rajasthan, during which they tied rakshasutra (safety band) on peepal (sacred fig) trees and took a pledge to save them. The group raised slogans to plant more trees and talked on the relationship between environment and mankind.

Chajuram, an active member of Village Development Committee, said, “If a community realizes what the problem is, it will take corrective measures. We need to plant more trees and impose a complete ban on cutting of trees. A penalty on cutting trees is also being considered, if someone goes beyond the ban.”
